SmartSenior at CeBIT: Intelligent solutions for an aging society

At CeBIT 2012, partners in the SmartSenior research project are showcasing a selection of technology innovations for intelligent living environments for seniors. Solutions designed to enable older people to maintain their independence and stay put at home for as long as possible are being presented by the consortium at the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) stand E50 in the CeBIT lab in hall 26.

Following the introduction of individual components at last year's CeBIT fair, SmartSenior is now set to demonstrate the entire integrated system in 2012:

• Services on various devices are offered via a standardized user interface, for example on smartphone and TV portal.
• Individual services are integrated in a complex service portfolio.
• Modular solutions can be tailored flexibly to the needs of individual users.

The complete system is characterized by ease of use across the entire offer.

Visitors can experience the solutions from the user's vantage point based on two different fictitious senior personalities – at home as well as on the road. In the third section, they get a glimpse behind the scenes in order to learn more about the professional world of SmartSenior. The highlights of the three stations "At Home", "On the Move" and "Assistance Center and Telemedicine Center" are:

• Fall prevention, supported by the interactive trainer, and measurement of vital data parameters
• Driving behavior and emergency measures
• Service provision: vital data management, as well as assistance and remote maintenance

The SmartSenior alliance will shortly be commencing the field trial, which is scheduled for April 2012. In more than 30 homes, seniors will test the SmartSenior solutions under everyday conditions. At the same time, three additional studies are being executed on the aspects of fall prevention and stroke rehabilitation, pain therapy, and peritoneal dialysis.
